In our contract discussions with UW Medicine, we are doing everything we can to reach a fair agreement that keeps them in our network. However, they continue to demand unreasonable increases that would drive up health plan costs for members and local employers. As our discussions continue, we hope to come to terms with UW Medicine on a reasonable rate increase that keeps healthcare costs affordable.

Our contract with UW Medicine expires soon

Our network agreement with UW Medicine ends on May 31, 2025. While our discussions continue, without a new agreement, UW Medicine hospitals and providers will be out of network for Aetna Commercial and Medicare Advantage health plans after that date.

Members that continue receiving care from a provider that is no longer part of their health plan network would pay more out of pocket than when the provider was in network. The amount depends on whether their health plan covers services from providers not in their plan’s network. Generally, members pay less out of pocket when they use providers in their plan’s network. We recommend members check their health plan details before seeing a provider not in their plan’s network to understand their costs.

We will advocate for you

Our goal is to help members maintain access to the doctors they know and trust. At the same time, affordability is an important part of health care access and the prices set by providers for their health care services have a direct impact on the out-of-pocket costs that members pay, as well as the cost to employers for their employee health plans. That is why in our contract discussions with UW Medicine, we are focused on avoiding price increases for health care services that would significantly increase cost for our members and plan sponsors. We want to reach a fair agreement that keeps the costs affordable for members and plan sponsors.
